Root Canal Procedure

We understand that just hearing the term “root canal” often makes patients anxious. The procedure gets a bad rap for being painful, but the pain you’re feeling from the affected tooth is actually probably worse. The procedure itself is fairly simple.

To start, we numb the area around the affected tooth, and then isolate the tooth. We then drill into the tooth and remove the infected tooth pulp from the root canals. Once the canals are cleaned out, we fill them with an antibiotic gel to make sure we kill any remaining infection. Finally, we seal the canals and the inside of the tooth.

We’ll place a temporary crown while your tooth and the area heals, and while our lab creates a permanent crown for you. Once your permanent crown is ready, you’ll come back in to have that fitted and bonded, completing the process. The permanent crown gives the tooth added strength and extra protection against future damage or infection.

Need a Root Canal

Not all tooth pain is a sign that you need a root canal. The best way for us to tell if you need a root canal is for you to come in for an exam and X-rays, but here are a few symptoms to look out for.

Sudden onset of tooth pain
Tooth sensitivity, especially if sudden
Sharp pain when chewing
Sores on gums
Severe or chronic aching or pressure
Bad taste in mouth that is new and won’t go away
